ABOUT THIS BOOK

Canada was once a land of calm confidence — a nation admired for its civility, decency, and quiet strength. Today, that serenity is fading. Dominion of Fear is a bold and unflinching examination of how a country that once led by example has become gripped by anxiety, lawlessness, and disillusionment.

From corruption and political decay to rising costs, media bias, and foreign influence, Reed W. Turcotte exposes the subtle erosion of the Canadian spirit. With a journalist’s precision and a patriot’s heart, he reveals how fear — of government, of one another, and of the world beyond our borders — has reshaped the Dominion into something unrecognizable. Each chapter confronts a different dimension of that fear, including two chapters on a profound exploration of Canada’s uneasy relationship with the United States — a powerful neighbour that both protects and consumes.

Dominion of Fear is not a book of despair, but of reckoning. It challenges Canadians to look unflinchingly at what we have become — and to rediscover the courage, civility, and moral clarity that once defined us. Uncompromising, eloquent, and essential, this book speaks to every citizen who still believes Canada can find its voice again.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Reed W. Turcotte is a Canadian author and publisher known for his clear-eyed examination of the nation’s social and political evolution. His sharp, often unflinching observations examine how fear, complacency, and misplaced idealism are eroding the values that once defined Canada and to a lessor extent the United States. Turcotte’s three books blend investigative clarity with a deep concern for the country’s direction; from its vanishing sense of order to the corrosion of personal accountability and civic trust. His earlier works challenged readers to confront uncomfortable truths about governance, justice, and identity; Dominion of Fear continues that mission, exposing the social decay and political cowardice that now define the Canadian experience.

A lifelong observer of Canadian life, Turcotte writes with the conviction that reclaiming courage and common sense is not only possible — it is essential. His writing reflects a deep concern for the erosion of order, accountability, and civic confidence within Canada’s institutions. Raised in Western Canada, Turcotte developed an early appreciation for independence, resilience, and fairness — qualities that now shape his critique of a country drifting from its founding character. His work combines investigative depth with an instinct for storytelling, bridging historical insight and present-day urgency.

Turcotte’s previous publications (fifty-one years of publishing newspapers, magazines and books) establish him as a voice unafraid to question the comfortable assumptions of modern Canada. In Dominion of Fear, he extends that challenge, asking readers to confront the growing lawlessness, moral confusion, and complacency that threaten the nation’s future. His last books have tried to shape the understanding of what Canada once stood for and could be again. Turcotte is a longtime Canadian newspaper publisher, editor, and journalist. His previous works (eleven books) include Enemy Below and Fragmentation of Canada.
